Humphreys Activity Center(Traditional Classroom) is a Customized In-Person Learning Platform for each child.

Reading
The major goal of reading comprehension is to help students develop the knowledge, skills and strategies they must posses to become proficient and independent readers who read with meaning. While reading, a student is expected to simultaneously, mentally interact and construct meaning from the text.
Writing
1st-12th grade can learn sentences and paragraphs in the following forms below. I currently teach 6 styles of writing for 1st - 12th graders:
Descriptive
Narrative
Persuasive
Expository
Response to Literature
Creative
1st lesson - of each style-how to write a paragraph for the chosen style, homework is first draft paragraph due 1-2 days before class so it can be corrected
2nd lesson - present draft at beginning of class, receive in-class feedback of how to write the final paragraph, homework is the final paragraph due
3rd lesson - how to create essay first draft- homework is first draft of essay
4th lesson - present draft at beginning of class, receive in-class feedback of how to create the final essay- homework is the final essay
Each level is the same, but a little more advanced. Each unit style is broken down to 4 lessons each. I teach the 5 stage writing process:
prewriting (with mind maps/graphic organizers and outlines)
drafting
revising- They'll learn to apply rubrics and writing traits (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency and conventions).
editing
publishing (portfolios)
Portfolios can be a shared school Google Drive with folders each student. All teachers can have access to post the final copies of all assignments. The very best essays have the chance to be published! This is optional if you want more writing students. It's exciting to tell students that the best essays at the end of a unit will be published on the school website. To say I'm a published writer in school is good for private school applications, careers and bragging rights. However, this is proof to future parents what their child could learn! And shows how good their writing can be!
Research papers and argumentative can be time-consuming but good for 5th and 6th graders, if you're interested. The issue is making sure that their sources are 100% credible-peer-reviewed, correct APA citations used etc.
